imap datasource has been coded, need some refactoring and a custom fpust / fgets wrapper for php with no imap support. possibly a table with id, email_id, class, fk to link emails to records, this is a habtm could also have a email model that stores some basics like sent time, recived title etc so there is less going to the imap datasource which is painfully slow as each time the entire email needs to be downloaded (when there is a 10mb attachment that is a problem)
with that also need to have a behaviour auto bind the relations and then the events can dispatch emails to the various plugins to decide what is what, this is where the newsletter plugin can get a mail and decide what to do with it.
